Fast Forward 2018:

An Oulton & Venn Collaboration

What happens when Oulton walks into Venn Innovation? We walk out with an amazing event…

After weeks of planning, Oulton and Venn put on an event called Fast Forward on April 10. Our Sales & Marketing and Business Management & Entrepreneurship students went over to Venn for the day to participate in a consulting challenge where they had the chance to not only get some real-world experience and network with entrepreneurs and professionals, but also to win some serious bragging rights, a pretty cool trophy and a cash prize.

Our students hard at work creating viable custom solutions for our guest entrepreneurs.

Our students will be graduating in June, and so this was a great opportunity to give them a chance to see what the professional world will look like for them. Our students were divided into teams, and each team consulted an entrepreneur on specific pain points, ranging from sales and marketing strategies, to product development, logistic issues and distribution solutions.

So, who were the entrepreneurs?

From left to right: Jasmine Zhang, Carly Delcy, , Katie Leith, Angelica Budrow, Matt White, Melanie Buell, Nathan Dow, Alex Arsenault and Sylvain LeBlanc

Matt White, a firm believer that “behind every beard is a chin and behind every chin is a man with a story”, is the founder of Sussex Beard Oil Merchants. He had two very strong teams working hard on product development, a time management system as well as a marketing strategy for him.

Top row: Alexandre Léger, Serena Stoshack, Olalekan Seriki, Aimée Foreman, Wenona LaBillois, Hector Ebute, Ajibola Seriki
Bottom Row: Johnayson Anney, Ryan Downey, Kayla Weir, Jessica Trites

Aimée Foreman believes in the power of gift giving, which is why she’s using her Sunberry Box to help keep multigenerational relationships central to the fabric of our families. Aimée was looking for creative solutions to her logistics issues, as well as ideas for product development and marketing, and her teams did not disappoint.

Top row : Olamide Ogunlade, Bobbie Chambers, Luc Bourque, Marcel Petitpas, Melissa Stroud, Dylan King
Bottom row: Hayley Smith, Julien Cormier, Nollie Livingstone, Karelle Parenteau

Marcel Petitpas is the CEO and Co-founder of Parakeeto, a software startup that helps its clients to better connect their tools and track their metrics, because, as they say, ain’t nobody got time for that. Marcel asked his teams to figure out the best marketing channels for Parakeeto, as well as creative ways to grow his team, while keeping costs down.

But of course, in every competition, we want to see who won. This student team wowed us, the entrepreneurs and each other. In one day, acting as professional consultants, these four students were able to come up with a marketing strategy for Matt, produce a marketing campaign with example ads to be used on different social media channels, and provide really good market research to help him reach his clientele.

The winning team (left to right): Carly Delcy, Angelica Budrow, Matt White, Katie Leith, Jasmine Zhang

Our students loved the challenge and thoroughly enjoyed working for the entrepreneurs. Matt, Aimée and Marcel were also extremely excited to walk out with action plans and fresh ideas for their businesses. Overall, our collaboration with Venn Innovation was a great success.
