Oulton College and Venn Innovation Inc. Partner to Benefit Students

MONCTON, NB – Oulton College and Venn Innovation Inc. today announced a partnership that will connect Oulton students to industry professionals and highlight the opportunities that exist in our region.  The partnership, which was announced during the April edition of Moncton’s Cyber Social that was hosted at VennCentre, will come into effect this year and will benefit both current and future Oulton students.

“Blending classroom learning with practical application is a key to ensuring our students continue to succeed beyond graduation” says Darcie Robichaud, President of Oulton College. “These types of innovative industry partnerships are crucial to ensuring our students become connected with our local communities, helping them realize that there are opportunities in this region for career success. Given the excellent work that Venn Innovation has already done to promote innovation and innovative companies in our region, we are excited to help connect our graduates with local opportunities.”

As part of Oulton College’s continuous program development, the College has hosted a number of focus groups with leaders from the private sector. “This partnership is something that was identified during our focus groups as a way to get our students out of the classroom so they connect with industry sooner,” says Janelle Bourgeois, Director of Organizational Performance for Oulton College. “Partnerships such as this one provide our students with the hands-on skills required to work in companies where innovation and technology play a significant role, allowing them to immerse themselves in the strong IT and entrepreneurial communities that exists in our region.”

As part of the partnership, Venn Innovation and the Vennture Garage will work with Oulton College to help facilitate real world simulation training, such as a business plan competition. “Creating our own talent is important for New Brunswick,” says Dave Gallant, Managing Director of Venn’s Vennture Garage Program. “These students are the future entrepreneurs, founders, and employees of New Brunswick companies.  We are looking forward to helping them understand more about the process of taking an idea, validating it, and building it into a company that is scalable.”

“We are pleased to include Oulton College among our partner education institutions,” says Doug Robertson, President and CEO of Venn Innovation.  “Globally, access to talent needed for the growth of technology-enabled companies is a challenge. Through working with our New Brunswick post-secondary partners, as well as working with industry, we are developing a talent-pool that is responding to the needs of industry.  These students are prepared through the post-secondary programs to hit the ground running and can help to address the needs of our growing companies.”

“We look forward to working with Venn Innovation, helping connect students from across our faculties with the growing number of opportunities in our region,” says Robichaud. “Our region’s economy is evolving, which is why we need to be continuously adapting and growing our education programs to ensure our students meet the current and future needs of industry.”
